Our story
Knowledge in service of society.
The University of Goma is a public higher education institution created in the framework of the Congolese policy of expanding university education. It was born from the North Kivu University Center in Goma and later became an autonomous university through the necessary legal steps that recognized its mission and academic responsibility.
UNIGOM trains students in a variety of disciplines, promotes scientific research and supports the social and economic development of the region and the country. It is committed to excellence, inclusion and quality education that responds to national and international needs.

At a glance
A university rooted in Goma and connected to the future.
- 1993: The North Kivu University Center was created in Goma as part of the higher education expansion policy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- 1996-1997: University extensions were established to widen access to advanced studies and professional training.
- 2005: The institution gained autonomy and became the University of Goma, with a clear mandate to train, research and serve society.
